Kaffeefahrt/Promotional tour

Am vorletzten Tag unserer Tour haben wir nun auch dieses Reise-Kapitel aufgeschlagen. Gestern gab’s zwar einen kurzen Stopp an einer „Eierschalen-Bilder“-Manufaktur, aber das war ganz interessant und nicht aufdringlich. Heute sind wir ins Mekong-Delta gefahren und wurden dort von Sängern, Bootsführern, Kokosnuss-Konfekt-Produzenten, Pferde-Karren-Kutschern, Honig-/Gelée-Royale-Verkäufern usw. zu Käufen aufgefordert bzw. zu Trinkgeldern genötigt. Nervig. Dabei waren sowohl die eigentlichen Bootsfahrten als auch das Essen gut. Aber vielleicht sollte man ein wenig nachsichtiger sein, wenn der Tagesausflug inklusive Essen für 18US$ zu haben ist… War halt nicht unser Reisestil, anders hätten wir das Delta jedoch nicht besuchen können.

On the last but one day of our tour, we now have also opened this chapter of travelling. Yesterday, there was only a short stop at an "egg shell"-picture-manufacture, but that was quite interesting and non-intrusive. Today we went to the Mekong Delta and were asked by singers, boat guides, coconut candy manufacturers, horse carts coachmen, honey - /royal jelly vendors etc. to buy stuff or give tips. Annoying. Especially, since the actual boat trips as well as the food were good. But perhaps I should try to be a little more forgiving – the day trip including meals cost USD 18 per person... Was just not our style of travelling, but we couldn’t have visited the Delta on our own.

Abends sind wir dann noch schnell auf einen Markt und haben nett um etwas Tee/Kaffee/ein paar getrocknete Bananen und Mangos gefeilscht. In entspannter Atmosphäre kann das für beide Seiten echt Spaß machen – draufzahlen tue sowieso immer ich. Und nach dem (nochmal Street Market) Essen setzte wieder heftiger Regen ein. Aber eben erst nach dem Tag und nach dem Essen. In Anbetracht des vielen Wassers und der Wärme stellt sich die Frage, warum es eigentlich kaum Mücken gibt. Liegt das an der Stadt oder gibt’s eine andere Erklärung?

In the evening, we quickly walked to a market and haggled nicely for some tea/coffee/a few dried bananas and mangos. In a relaxed atmosphere that can be real fun for both sides (even though it’s always me losing money). When we just had finished another street market dinner, again heavy rain set in. But after the tour day and after eating that’s somehow ok. With all this water and the heat I wonder why there are hardly any mosquitoes. Has it to do with the city or is there another explanation?
